1. How do I select the right removal Company?
A reputable removal company will be licensed and insured and will have an established place of business for at least 3 years. Visit a prospective movers premises to be sure that they can properly cater for your needs.
2. How can I be sure that I have an accurate estimate?
Final prices paid may vary from the cost for binding and non-binding estimates. An accurate survey including an accurate box count, is the first step in receiving an accurate quotation.
3. What can change the price for my move?
Additional charges may be incurred for the following reasons:
*Your shipment is significantly larger than estimated.
*Your shipment is delivered into a building without elevator.
*Access to your residence is more than 75 feet from the mover's parked truck to your front door.
*Your shipment must be carried up above the 2nd floor.
4. How will I be charged for packing?
Packing charged are calculated by volume of what the mover packs. This is the most variable part of your cost of moving. To get an accurate packing estimate it is necessary to have a concise listing of what you want packed.
5. How do I pay for my move?
Payments can be made by cash, bank transfer and credit cards.
6. What is not covered for damage?
Movers do not usually accept responsibility for the following:
*Documents, currency, jewellery, precious stones, articles of extraordinary value, unless specifically listed on the Bill of Lading prior to moving.
*Loss of damage due to breakage of china, glassware or similar fragile items, unless packed and unpacked by the mover or unless visible exterior damage is not done to the container and documented on the delivery.
*Mechanical operating condition of appliances and electronics.
*Missing items not specially inventoried by our packing crew and documented as missing on delivery.
*Items previously broken, repaired or glued.
*Damage to items not documented on delivery.
7. If there are any damaged, how do I file a claim?
Although you have 15 days to register a claim, it is highly recommended to document damage on delivery and file immediately, to be sure that you receive an equitable settlement.
8. How much notice do I need to give a mover to book my moving date?
A mover can accommodate most moves providing he has 2 weeks prior notice, with a firm date. More time is preferable particularly in the busy season (May to September). If you are unable to give 2 weeks notice, call to confirm selecting a firm date. For short notice moves, please contact us immediately and we will do everything possible to accommodate your needs.
9. Are there any items I should not ship?
Do not pack or ship flammable items, propane tanks, liquid detergents, aerosol cans or any items that may cause damage to your shipment. This could void insurance coverage if there is an unfortunate incident.
10. How do I keep my communications open on the day of the move?
Telephone and utilities should not be turned off until the day after you move.
BEFORE YOU MOVE
6-4 Weeks Before
Check and collect all your documents (passports, permits, etc.).
Make sure all documents are still valid. It's best to renew your passport if it is within 18 months of the expiration date.
Check travel documents (i.e. tickets)
If you will be transporting your pet, please consult and inform us.
Notify the school(s).
Notify the bank.
Cancel any memberships, subscriptions and / or services - especially if direct billing is established.
Collect information on the new destination.
Book any hotel accommodations that will be needed.
Set and confirm the removal date with us.
Inform your friends / relatives of the upcoming move and destination.
Dispose of any items that you do not need any more. Try local advertising to sell those of value.
Organize storage, if necessary.
Organize home sale or rental.
2 Weeks Before
Arrange for mail to be forwarded.
Verify that your Internet service provider has a local dial-up number in the destination.
Otherwise, make alternative arrangements.
Notify your clinic, doctor, dentist, etc., of your move. Collect medical records and copies of x-rays.
Check health insurance coverage.
Obtain any needed vaccinations / immunizations.
Return borrowed books, DVD's, videos, tools etc.
Ask for final accounts for gas, electricity, water, cable and other utilities.
Clean garden tools.
Pick up clothes from dry cleaners.
Complete insurance list.
1 Week Before
Give away any plants and perishable food items.
Pay any outstanding bills.
Separate the items with which you will be travelling.
1 Day Before
Unplug all electrical equipment, disconnect washing machine / dryer / dishwasher.
Ask neighbours to leave space in street or driveway for our Removal Truck
Mark items that should not be moved.
Day of Move
Organize your children's time (settle them with babysitter or arrange the yard / room with toys and entertainment).
Separate all items that you will be travelling with (i.e. passports, medical records, jewellery, birth certificates, tax returns, baby food, pet food etc.).
Separate all items that you will need to access quickly at the destination (i.e. toys, baby bottles, pet leashes, pet food, etc.).
Walk through your house with the crew leader (and translator, if necessary) and point out requests and concerns.
Keep snacks, drinks and / or kettle available for you and your kids.
Once van is loaded, check all rooms to ensure that only the items marked "do not move" are remaining.
Check and sign the inventory list.
